“Instagram is enough for me” — we hear it almost every day. And for a start, social media really is a great tool. But building your whole business on it alone is risky.
Social media is rented space
Your profile belongs to the platform. An account can be blocked because of an algorithm error, a competitor’s complaint or a hack. Reach drops every time the platform changes its rules. Years of work can disappear in a day.
A website is your asset. The domain, content and client base belong to you.
What Instagram can’t do
- Show up in Google. People searching for “manicure near me” find websites and Google Maps, not profiles.
- Structure information. Prices, services and terms get lost among posts.
- Take payments and bookings without back-and-forth in DMs.
- Give accurate analytics — where a client came from and what they looked at.
Conversion: the numbers
A social media profile usually converts visitors into enquiries much worse than a well-made landing page. The reason is simple: in a profile, a person has to find prices, read highlights, send a DM and wait for a reply. On a website, they press one button.
The best strategy is both
- Instagram — for discovery, content and trust.
- The link in your bio leads to the website.
- The website — for the decision: prices, reviews, booking.
- Ads lead to the website, not the profile — that makes enquiries cheaper.
This combination brings more enquiries than each channel alone and protects you from depending on a single platform.
